Birding Photography Blog – Cape Turtle Dove by Rob Lücke
Stunning image by Rob Lücke, as taken from the sunken birding photography hide at Indlovu River Lodge. Rob was part of a Photography Course hosted at Indlovu, by well-known birding photographer, Albert Froneman.
The Photography Courses at Indlovu are tailor-made to suit the groups needs. They focus on birding photography from the specialised sunken hides on the Karongwe Private Reserve where Indlovu River Lodge is located. The specific course that Albert Froneman hosted, consisted of four nights and five days.
The sunken photographic hides at Indlovu is any amateur photographer’s dream. They present a great amount of opportunities to capture close up, unique angle photos. The fact that the specialized hides are sunken below water level at the water holes, presents the photographer with a image that not only captures the reflection of the birds on the surface of the water, but also the clear blue, African sky in the background.
The group can be hosted in any of the four private villas available at Indlovu River Lodge. Each villa has its own private pool, boma and en suite bedrooms. The lodge is also fully serviced, with meals included. Access to the sunken birding photography hide has to be booked in advance. The rate is included in the full board rate.

It was such a pleasure hosting this years competition winner Michiel Duvenhage and his wife Mart-Mari. This is what they had to say about their experience.
At Indlovu River Lodge our food is prepared with care by our dedicated staff. We like giving our guests a warm, local experience by making traditional South African food, but sometimes we add a nice European twist to make our foreign guests feel more at home.
