Congratulations to Marijke Claassen! She is the Amateur Photography Competition bi-monthly winner for July and August! The stunning image above was selected by our panel of judges, and has won her a two-night, all-inclusive stay at Indlovu River Lodge with access to our photography hides.
This winning photograph of the Amateur Photography Competition will also come into contention for the Grand Prize, which is an 8 night, all inclusive bush and beach holiday for two at Indlovu River Lodge and Strand Beach Lodge in the Cape Winelands.

Description : This black crow was at a waterhole, and tried to catch a red-headed finch. He did catch the finch, but luckily it managed to get away.

“Every single photography competition is subject to the personal opinion and preference of the judge. I’ll admit unashamedly that I am a sucker for behaviour. And this image captures interesting behaviour on a few fronts. Firstly, a Black crow is not known to hunt and here it is clearly illustrated that the ever opportunistic crow will hunt when the chance presents itself. Not only that but the fact that the image is captured at the decisive moment. Within a second the outcome, whether the prey escaped or became a meal, is captured beautifully and leaves the audience with abated breath”
